The Spring Wine Festival at Monticello on Saturday, May 14th

Wine Festival at Monticello, May 14, 6-9 p.m.

What a fabulous weekend to come see us at The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm!  In addition to taking in the beauty of the Hollow, head over to the Wine Festival at Monticello, which takes place on Saturday, May 14th from 6 pm until 9 pm. The story of Jefferson and wine comes alive during the Wine Festival at Monticello.

Enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of Monticello, taste the fruits of the earth from local wineries and relax in the splendor of spring on the West Lawn of Monticello, just as Mr. Jefferson once did. In the spirit of Mr. Jefferson (who was a consummate violinist) they'll have live music to enjoy as well.  What better way to spend an evening than to hear live music on the West Lawn of Monticello and see the garden in full splendor while tasting wines from locally produced Virginia wineries? Reservations are required; tickets are still available for $55.00 per person.

And, at the end of a wonderful evening at Mr. Jefferson's mountain home, you'll be just a short drive back to the Hollow where a warm and cozy bed awaits.  Don't worry, we'll have a scrumptious breakfast for you on Sunday morning. But you'd better hurry, we only have a few rooms left.  Come See Us!

Moth Identification - Is it a Luna?

A spring and summer phenomenon for the observant and curious among us - moth identification. Who among us hasn't wondered about some of the beautiful moths that we see during the day or flickering around our outdoor lights at night? The Luna Moth is just one of those beauties and one has graced The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm with its rare presence.

A bit of a nature lesson for you -  Luna moths are so special because they are an endangered species in some areas - they have a wingspan of over 4 inches, have very long tails and eyespots on their wings to scare off predators. Look fast - they fly only at night in spring and early summer - live only one week - never eat - they don't even have a mouth!

As soon as the luna moth leaves the cocoon, it rests and dries its wings then flies off in search of a mate. Its sole purpose in life is to mate and with its very short life span it has to work fast :).

Join us in Sugar Hollow and you may have a chance to see one of these rare and beautiful moths.
