One of the best books I have read, a joy and a pleasure. Run, don't walk to grab this book and read it!
This is the memoir of Peekay, an English boy born in South Africa in the late 1930's, during WW II. Peekay battles through every adversity and challenge and refuses to be deterred from accomplishing his ultimate goal. Striving for his life long goal (you'll have to read the book to find out what it is) provides the framework for Peekay's story. This motto is given him and it is his guiding light through all of the challenges that life throws at him -- "Little beat big when little is smart. First with the head and then with the heart."
From the Los Angeles Times Book Review
“Totally engrossing . . . [presents] the metamorphosis of a most remarkable young man and the almost spiritual influence he has on others . . . Peekay has both humor and a refreshingly earthy touch, and his adventures, at times, are hair-raising in their suspense.”
From the New York Times
“The Power of One has everything: suspense, the exotic, violence; mysticism, psychology and magic; schoolboy adventures, drama.”
Read it. Let me know what you think. What books do you recommend for us bibliophiles? Have you read a good book lately?
