On Saturday August 13, 2011 Wintergreen Performing Arts will present the voices of the Blue Ridge by hosting the Sixth Annual Blue Ridge Mountain Music Fest.
Most of us who really love the Blue Ridge Mountains have a special place in our hearts for mountain music. That high lonesome sound is the voice of the mountains and as familiar to us as the sound of the wind whipping through the Hollow. The haunting refrain of the fiddle contrasted by the sharp piercing sound of the mandolin and the twangy cadence of the banjo all mix together in perfect harmony with guitar and bass to form a wonderful soup for our southern souls when coupled with weary voices singing of the sorrows (and of the joys) that make up the history of a people. It is a sound and a story uniquely American with shadows of Ireland, Scotland and Africa blended in for good measure; a sound and a story that rises up from the hearts of mountain people and flows throughout their lives like the Moormans River rises out of the Blue Ridge, as two streams, the north and south forks, and flows out of the Shenandoah Park and through Sugar Hollow. Like the river and the mountains themselves, the music is a part of us.
And you are so in luck because Wintergreen is just a hop skip and a jump from The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm (well, actually, it's about forty minutes worth of hops, skips and jumps, but it is quite a beautiful drive!). Plan to get away on Friday, August 12th, and come to The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm. Wake up to a hearty breakfast on Saturday and take a walk along the Moormans River before heading out of the Hollow to Wintergreen to enjoy a day of mountain music. After a fabulous foot tapping day, and maybe dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery or Fardowners (a local favorite), come on back to the Hollow for a peaceful night's sleep in one of our incredibly cozy beds. Wake up refreshed Sunday morning to another fantastic country breakfast before heading down the Hollow and back to wherever you call home. Now that's a great plan! We've got just the right room waiting for you. But you'd better hurry, the weekend is almost here. Come see us!
