Charlottesville, VA Our Wild Turkey
Sorry, these are not your usual Thanksgiving turkey. They are thinner and would not be so tasty. We can tell you, these ladies are very fast runners and have excellent hearing. The breeding season is now -- during March and April. We can hear the males gobble in the woods, trying to attract a female, or ideally an entire harem. I'm sure the local males would find the harem in this photo just perfect!
Have you ever seen a wild turkey fly into a tree? Big head, fat body, clumsy but powerful -- amazing.
