If you wish to take a beautiful fall foliage drive from the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm through the countryside that leads you to an amazing local crafts shop, have I got the tour for you! (And remember, this is a wonderful pastoral drive any time of year with rolling hills, farmland and grazing horses and cows.)
We took a country ride this week heading north from Charlottesville with Montpelier, President James Madison's home, as our eventual destination. On our way, however, we happened by a wonderful crafts shop owned by Holly Horan, Noon Whistle Pottery. The name, of course, derives from its history as a former train station. You must go! Holly Horan's shop holds a unique collection of handmade work (including her own) from over 100 American artists and craftsmen -- many local to the area. She features pottery of all shapes, sizes and colors, sculpture, jewelry, glass, woodwork, paintings, just to mention a few of the varied handmade arts and crafts that you will find there. It is located in the quaint and historic town of Stanardsvillle, VA.
When you have selected treasures for yourself, family and friends you may wish to continue on to Montpelier, the home of President James Madison and his wife, Dolley, the socialite. Then a return to the Sugar Hollow for a nap before dinner!
