
Beginning Dec. 1 - A New Daily Winter Tour
Winter Tour, A Society to Our Taste, in December, January and February (Daily except Dec. 1, 10, 11 and 25.)Jefferson’s creation of an extended community of individuals who shared his interests, including James and Dolley Madison and James Monroe, will be examined on these extended tours of the house. The tour will allow guests to linger a little and will be a bit longer tour of 40 - 45 minutes. Included in price of general admission.
Monticello's Holiday Winter Weekend will include a variety of indoor and outdoor tours on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cider and cookies will be served outside.
This special weekend will reflect the holiday period of Jefferson's day and will feature aromas of the season from period foods cooking in the newly restored historic kitchen, live music indoors and out, a bonfire in the vegetable garden each day, and grazing sheep.
Mulberry Row tours exploring the lives of enslaved workers, how they lived and celebrated the holidays will be daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Landcape tours of the mountaintop grounds are at noon and 2 p.m.
Wreath Workshops: Dec. 2, 3, 5, 7, 9. 10. Workshop leaders will guide participants in the process of making a Christmas wreath in the Colonial tradition. All materials will be provided including the straw form, pins, wire and all natural materials. Cost is $40. Bring your hand pruners. Call to reserve a spot. All sessions meet at the Monticello Visitors Center at 9:30 each day offered, and additionally at 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 3 and 10.
Monticello's winter hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Rates are $14 for adults and $6 for children, ages 6 - 11.
